Washington State has a network of FREE housing counselors trained and experienced in working with you to get ready for homeownership — or get help when you are struggling to keep your home.

Housing counselors are familiar with affordable homeownership resources around the state. They work with you individually on topics such as:

      • Becoming mortgage-ready
      • Foreclosure prevention
      • Rebuilding credit
      • Budgeting
      • Making a savings plans
      • Avoiding mortgage default

Statewide Counseling Agencies by Region

The Homeownership Hotline can connect you with any of these agencies, but you can also reach out directly at the contact information below. These agencies are familiar with affordable homeownership programs around the state and sometimes even offer their own programs to assist with homeownership, rehabilitation, and weatherization.

To Make a Complaint

If you are working with one of the agencies listed above and have a complaint regarding the services provided to you by that agency, please complete the Foreclosure Fairness Program Housing Counselor Complaint Form. The Washington State Housing Finance Commission will review any complaint we receive regarding housing counseling.

Please note: The Commission cannot assist or intervene in your foreclosure case. Please either continue to work with your current housing counselor, or seek a referral to another counselor through the Washington Homeownership Resource Center at 1-877-894-4663 or www.homeownership-wa.org.

For more information on the Foreclosure Fairness Program or to file a complaint against a mediator, contact the Department of Commerce (commerce.wa.gov/foreclosures).

To file a complaint against your loan servicer, contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions or the Washington State Attorney General’s Office.
